For lamps and simple switching, buy by platform, load type and support—not by a generic “smart” label.

Good for: Simple on/off control for lamps

Tapo P125M

A Matter plug that connects through 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.

Before you buy
Check the regional electrical rating. Matter support does not imply Thread or energy measurement.

Amazon option: Tapo P125M — US three-pack

Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. This listing is the US three-pack; check the electrical load and your Matter controller before buying.

Good for: A plug for a Thread-based setup

Eve Energy — current Matter model

A Matter-over-Thread plug with power/energy measurement in supported software.

Before you buy
Requires compatible Thread/Matter infrastructure. Confirm which energy measurements your controller exposes. Older HomeKit models are different.

Plan your setup

Match your platform

Tapo P125M is a manufacturer-documented example of Matter over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Current Eve Energy is an example of Matter over Thread. These are examples to compare, not a measured best-of ranking. Thread needs a compatible border router; a Wi-Fi plug needs adequate Wi-Fi. Older Kasa HS105 and Amazon Smart Plug descriptions do not establish Matter support.

Check the appliance and the outlet

A smart plug switches power; it does not add functions to an appliance. Test whether the appliance resumes safely after power is restored. Confirm voltage, plug format, grounding, current limit, motor/inrush restrictions and indoor/outdoor rating for the exact SKU. Do not infer heater compatibility from a 15 A headline. Follow both manufacturers’ instructions and keep manual control accessible.

Energy monitoring is a separate feature

Some plugs report energy; others only switch. Check whether measurement is visible in your intended platform or only in the manufacturer app, and whether the metric is instantaneous power or cumulative energy. Turning a device off can save consumption, but do not claim universal savings without measuring the actual load.

Old bargains can be costly

Belkin’s affected legacy Wemo devices lost cloud support in January 2026. A used device that still works in an existing HomeKit setup may be impossible to set up anew. Our archived plug pages preserve the model history and outstanding support questions. Check current prices only after matching the exact model and support status.
