Plan your setup
Motion is not presence
A passive infrared motion sensor detects movement; someone reading quietly can stop triggering it. A presence sensor may use another technique, such as radar, with its own placement and false-positive issues. Eve Motion is a manufacturer-documented Matter-over-Thread motion sensor, not a promise of radar presence detection. Check the viewing area, timeout behavior, pets and outdoor rating.
Contact and environmental sensors
Door contacts can drive an open-window reminder or a light. They are not a substitute for a complete alarm system. Decide whether you need temperature, humidity, CO₂, fine particles or another measurement before selecting an air-quality monitor. Awair 2nd Edition documents a particular set of sensors; it does not identify every airborne hazard.
Use sensible thresholds
Avoid turning a light off immediately after motion stops. Add a delay and a manual override. Air-quality readings depend on placement and sensor limitations, and trends are often more useful than a single sample. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for ventilation decisions and verify any integration actually exposes the measurement you need.
Keep safety devices separate
An air-quality monitor is not a certified smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm. Do not disable an alarm to make an automation quieter. For a leak, gas, smoke or security use case, establish what happens when the battery, network or hub fails, and test the actual notification path.
