Products to compare

Concrete examples to help you choose a setup. Start with the fit and requirements, then check the exact model before buying.

Good for: A mesh network with suitable Ethernet/backhaul

eero Max 7

A current Wi-Fi 7 mesh-router product documented by eero.

Before you buy
Compare Ethernet needs, client radios, backhaul and the model’s support policy. A quoted aggregate speed or coverage area is not a measured promise for your home.

Plan your setup

Coverage beats the headline number

Map where devices will be used, particularly exterior cameras and garden controls. Walls, placement, interference and backhaul affect coverage. An advertised aggregate Wi-Fi speed or square-foot claim is not a measured promise for your house. Use wired backhaul where practical and confirm the router’s Ethernet ports suit your internet and local devices.

Check radio and discovery requirements

Many accessories need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Thread is a separate mesh that needs local IPv6; disabling IPv6 can break it. Guest-network isolation or VLAN rules may block discovery between phones, hubs and accessories. Use your controller’s documented network requirements rather than opening broad firewall access to fix pairing.

Make filtering reversible

DNS filtering blocks selected domains, not every advertisement. Ads served with the same domain as content can remain, and apps using their own encrypted DNS may bypass router settings. Take resolver addresses from the provider’s current instructions, save the original settings and test one client. Keep a quick rollback path when a streaming app or device stops working.

Buy remaining support

Check the exact router’s security-update commitment and set an update routine. eero publishes model-specific support information; other manufacturers have their own policies. A fast old router with no support commitment can be a poor foundation. Test stability and reconnect behavior after a planned restart before adding more devices.
