Letting Apple Home handle home, sleep, and away temperatures is the strongest reason to consider this thermostat. Adaptive Temperature needs a HomePod or Apple TV plus an iPhone or Apple Watch, all running version 26 or later. Gizmodo used it for roughly a week without the Aqara app. After testing two units for a couple of months, MacRumors preferred Apple's controls to Aqara's scheduling interface, but cautioned against running both scheduling systems together.
The 4-inch touchscreen wakes as you approach, thanks to built-in mmWave presence detection. Matter provides local control through Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings, while the built-in Zigbee hub can bridge Aqara accessories into those platforms. A Thread border router also extends your Thread network. The thermostat supports 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Check your HVAC compatibility and wiring before ordering: without a C-wire, you'll need Aqara's separately sold adapter.
The recurring snag is software polish. Gizmodo wouldn't replace its older Ecobee, citing interface issues and missing temperature limits. An early Home Assistant user on Aqara's forum reported local Matter control working without internet, but no native fan control or preset exposure. That makes the W200 a better fit for an Apple Home household wanting automatic home/away changes and a built-in hub than for someone replacing a satisfactory Ecobee or Nest. Cold-climate heat-pump owners should confirm current compressor and auxiliary-heat settings first; MacRumors reported an unresolved configuration concern.
